Peter Heidinger, the former Standard Chartered Plc banker who was scheduled to join Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc., is instead taking a senior position with Bank of Nova Scotia.
Heidinger will be Asia-Pacific regional head of Scotiabank’s global banking and markets unit, the Toronto-based lender said Friday in an e-mailed statement. He’ll start next week as managing director based in Singapore, Myra Reisler, a Scotiabank spokeswoman, said in the e-mail.
Mitsubishi had previously said Heidinger would join as co-head of corporate banking for Asia and Oceania on June 1. Taiki Kitaura, a Tokyo-based spokesman for Japan’s biggest bank, confirmed Friday that Heidinger didn’t take the role, without commenting further.
An e-mail sent to Heidinger’s LinkedIn account seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned.
Heidinger was previously global head of financial institutions in Singapore for London-based Standard Chartered. He earlier worked at Citigroup Inc. and Royal Bank of Canada, according to his LinkedIn profile.
